When to visit

Ermitaj is not just a professional project; it is also a home for its residents, who have chosen to live at their own pace. We dedicate certain periods to personal projects and rest time.

Please do not come unannounced. Here’s how to visit us:

  • Join our courses and workshops: Check our training sessions to find the one that suits you.
  • Volunteer: Join our team as a volunteer or participate in one of our work camps or “claca” gatherings.
  • Rental or Event Organization: Rent the place for projects or events aligned with our values.
  • Open Days and Events: Follow our agenda to find out about upcoming public events.

If you wish to visit at another time, please contact us at least one week in advance to arrange your visit.

Practical Tip: Access to Ermitaj is difficult after dark. For your comfort and ours, we strongly recommend arriving during daylight hours.

By Train or Bus

The nearest train and bus station is in Beclean (Beclean-pe-Someș station), about 10 km from Malin.

From Beclean to Malin:

  • Taxi: Taxis are available near the train station.
  • Hitchhiking: Stand at the beginning of the road to Malin (sign “Chiochis,” at the entrance of Beclean coming from Cluj). Hitchhiking can be a good option, but traffic varies depending on days and times. Please note that it is customary in Romania to offer a financial contribution to the driver.
  • Local Minibus: A bus passes through the Beclean station and stops at Rusu de Jos, second village before Malin. (Note: you would still need to walk 8 km until Ermitaj)

By Plane

The nearest airport is in Cluj-Napoca (90 km). From there, you can:

  • Take a train or bus from Cluj center to Beclean.
  • Opt for hitchhiking.

Arrival at Malin

  1. After entering the village, take the first bridge on the left (look for the “ERMITAJ” sign on a utility pole).
  2. The paved road ends after a few meters.
  3. At the first Y-shaped intersection, take to the left to descend towards the football field (! GPS error risk. Waze may lead you to the right towards the cemetery).
  4. Once at the football field, follow the watercourse on your right and walk up the small valley.
  5. After about 1 km, you will reach an intersection: continue straight (do not turn right towards the neighbor’s barn).
  6. After a few hundred meters, you will see the blue gate of Ermitaj on your right, at the foot of the forest.

Road Accessibility

The farm is accessible by car, but the path is partly gravelled and can be muddy depending on the season. If you prefer not to risk your vehicle, you can park near the football field and walk to Ermitaj (approximately 15 minutes).
